I am planning to buy 2 ATVs. I hope to find used 4X4 that fits my needs. Which manufacturers have machines with the following features that I can get under $5000? Between 400-600cc, prefer 450ish. selectable 2wd-4wd fuel injected - using from 5000 to 13000' elevation. cold weather also. independent rear suspension. Electronic power steering (one for my wife) High ground clearance - rocky climbs. I have found some newer models with all these features, but they are expensive. Not many 450's with these specs also. I am not interested in Artic cat, Polaris. I prefer Honda Kawasaki, suzuki or Yamaha... I think. I have seen a good value in KYMCO but know nothing about them. What would you suggest?

Well first off your ATV ain't no boat, I have a 2001 honda rancher 350, I've gotten it in some pretty deep water that has cost me plenty $, you probably sucked water up the tail pipe into your air filter, possibly into your motor, check your air f ilter compartment that is under your seat and see if it is full of water or mud, there is a drain plug at the bottom of the compartment to drain the water, then dry your filter out and hopefully none went into your motor, if it did your looking at, at least a ring job, about $150.00 to fix. This may or may not be your problem, but the same thing happen to me years ago and that was it. David H.

Hello there I got a 2004 yfz 450 aswell and have a major problem with starting it. I've changed stator, Cdi, cleaned the carbs, checked the valves, check compression, changed spark plug, pretty much done it all. I can't find the problem. I got an exhaust on it and k&n filter and running a170 for main jet. Now the weird thing is if I get pushed down the road and jump start it, it will run right away and runs good but spudders at wide open throttle. She will keep starting up fine when she's warm but as soon as it cools of again I can keep spinning and she will never go. Might get a little put or band sometime but that's it. She seems to be spitting the gas out her breeder. I was thinking the starter might of been drawing power from the spark, so then I ordered a kick start for it but still didn't work. I'm lost and don't know what else to try. No not it is not the rings. Most obvious cause is the float needle is sticking (open) or is worn and is no longer sealing properly in the needle seat. This will allow flooding of the carburetor that in turns runs into the air box and the top of the cylinder, thus washing down the cylinder (of all the oil) and then collecting in the crankcase. A faulty/leaking fuel shut of valve (petcock) will do this eventually as well as the needle cannot hold back the fuel (when not running) for long periods of time. I bought a tao tao 250 as a project to rebuild, i'm a car guy and wanted to try out quads. when i bought it it did not turn over or anything, it sat for 3 years. it needed a battery. i replaced that and it started to crank over, still doesnt start up. tested spark and it failed. replaced the voltage regulator, CDI, ignition coil, spark wire and plug. i now have spark. i tested fuel and the carb jets was frozen. replaced the carb. the carb gets wet from the gas but the manifold is dry. i have compression, hell of alot of compression. i dont understand how the carb can get fuel through the ports but it doesnt go anywhere. i had also replaced stator and fluids of course. it is an electric start, brakes has to be pressed to crank over. had adjusted the carb and new fuel line, and flushed the gas tank. again it is a 2008 Tao Tao 250cc 4 stroke. it cranks over, pressure exits the exhaust and sucks through the carb.... Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you for you time for reading this post.

Hi New to the site, thanks for having me. I have an 87 suzuki lt 80 with no spark. I checked the resistance of the stator and I am getting 173 ohms-think that is the spec. Then when cranking the motor, the stator is pushing out 30 volts ac with the multimeter. Using the wire that plugs into the coil/cdi. Then no spark get thru the cdi to the plug. All this being said, I am thinking the coil/cdi is bad..........am I right? Should I check something else. I dont want to spend the 200 dollar on a coil/cdi box if that is not the problem Thanks

Hi all hope someone can help, I bought a quad, it has no power on the key, i have changed the battery with a new 12v9ah battery. still no power, however when i attach leads from my car everything powers up. i also am having trouble to start and idle, i have stripped the carb, cleaned and rebuilt the carb, with no problems, i am unsure of the settings on the carb, i have started with the basics of tighten all up and undo two full turns and still have to use full choke and playing the throttle. i hope someone can help thanks in advance

I am having a carb. problem. I have cleaned the carb. numerious times. I have checked and cleaned the tank and pitcock. The unit will start and idle fine but will not rev up unless I partily block the throat of the carb. I can clearily see through all the jets and can spray through all the passages. Please help I've run out of things to try. :confused:

Hello all, My unit ran fine for six yrs. than just quit. The dlr. replaced the cdi and reg. It ran fine for two mo. then quit again. replaced cdi which again fixed problem...for another mo. All resistence cks. seem ok but the dc voltage ck. to coil is way high and seems to bleed off in a min. or two. Help; This thing is exceeding its value.

There is a sensor in the bottom corner of your radiator that tells the fan to turn on. The sensor in the cylinder head is only for the hot light indicator. Also check coolant level, and check circulation, you may have a cracked water pump impeller, they are plastic. :)

I have an atv that will start but it will not idle nor will it take fuel. Where is the choke and how do you adjust the idle on it? the tank had gotten water in it but we drained it and put new gas in it but it still wont run.
