SDR's custom-built cage not...
SDR's custom-built cage not only gave our Teryx a trick new look, but it gave us the confidence to keep the hammer down.
Now that the Teryx is near completion it is finally time for Dunlap and Engle to reveal what will be at the heart of our monster. It's no secret that Four Stroke Tech builds one adrenaline-packed 840cc kit for the Teryx, and yes, this is what we've been waiting for. This isn't the first FST 840cc kit we've experienced, so I have an idea of what to expect. The difference is that this time it will be fuel injected and even more mind-blowing than before. Our 840 kit will utilize Wiseco 11:1 pistons, FST Stage 3 cams, FST valve springs and all Cometic gaskets necessary to complete the package. The most difficult part of this project has been devising a means to fuel this big-bore beast. This is where Dasa's Steve Engle comes into play. He has put together a package that will feed even the hungriest of fuel-injected Kawasakis. Stock injectors max out long before the big 840 meets its fuel requirements so larger injectors are a necessity. Dasa's completely custom 39mm throttle bodies have also been installed and are a must for any Teryx looking to make big power. Additional fuel requires increased airflow, and Dasa's air filter kit is the solution. This kit offers a solid billet-aluminum clamping surface, which eliminates the risk of an unsecured filter allowing dust to be drawn into the engine. A fuel controller with ignition system is the brain of the operation, and without it we would have no other option than to keep our engine stock. Dasa's controller is a plug-and-play system that is fully capable of tuning both the fuel and timing curve. It also raises the rev-limiter to 9200 rpm letting the FST 840 rip like never before.
Together Dasa and FST developed what is now the most potent exhaust ever built for Kawasaki's Teryx. The dual system utilizes equal length pipes for a well-balanced exhaust that puts an additional 8 dyno-proven horsepower to the rear wheels. This number is based on a stock unit, so don't get any crazy ideas and decide to pull up beside the ATV Rider Teryx unless you are looking to have your front bumper sandblasted.
Any machine with a CVT transmission can benefit greatly from an aftermarket clutch kit. A Dalton Industries clutch kit has been installed in our Teryx to improve acceleration and compensate for our heavier aggressive tires. With quick-adjusting cam arms we can make adjustments to the flyweight to compensate for track conditions, machine modifications, elevation and changes in tire size. Dalton has also provided a billet overdrive clutch cover that completely removes all engine-braking for race applications. Another benefit of the clutch cover is a top-speed increase of four to five mph. These components will equally enhance the performance of your stock unit just as it has our heavily modded racer.
ITP BajaCross tires wrapped...
ITP BajaCross tires wrapped around HiPer's 14-inch Dakar beadlocks are a match made in heaven. They provide unsurpassed performance, and I can't say that I've ever seen a better-looking tire and wheel combination anywhere.
Stock green plastic screams Kawasaki, but we need this beast to look as wicked as it performs. Contacting Fullbore Innovations was the logical answer to achieving this appearance. Its custom plastics can transform any ATV or UTV from mild to wild, and that's exactly what they did to our Teryx. The unique curves, scoops and flares are accented with billet grille inserts and LED taillights that scream, "Look at me!" Just be sure to put on your shades before you do because this Teryx is extremely hot!
Graphics would finish up this project with style but that's not the look we're after. Custom paint would be another great option, but after a day of pounding through winding East Coast trails we would completely destroy a very expensive paint job. An elaborate wrap from Martin Neon & Signs brings the two together providing a slick custom look with the durability of graphics. In the likely event of an accident damaging an area of the machine, our sign experts can reprint the particular damaged section and replace it as needed. This simple concept will guarantee that our Teryx maintains its fresh appearance.
The moment we have been working frantically to reach has finally arrived. It is now time to crawl in, fire up this monster and see if it performs as good as it looks. As soon as the engine fires a deep rumble can be felt throughout your entire body, and it quickly turns to an aggressive teeth-chattering roar as you roll into the throttle. The rpm build causing the Dalton clutch to engage which unleashes the Teryx allowing it to launch with tremendous torque. The Green Machine quickly reaches incredible speeds and seems to float effortlessly across the heavily rutted red clay of our secret testing grounds. With extended arms, aggressive suspension and the absence of an engine-brake the Teryx is capable of railing through high-speed turns like never before. ITP's BajaCross tires then hook up and send us flying to the next. The performance is absolutely mind-boggling! Extreme UTVs of this caliber are common in the Western deserts but you won't find another quite like this roaming the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.
This extremely stable Teryx is capable of navigating tight winding terrain and in the blink of an eye blast off like a Patriot missile. Its low-profile stance and overall versatility allow it to perform well on both MX-style and cross-country tracks, clearly giving the Teryx an East Coast racing advantage. Overall, we have achieved far more than we ever expected.
