I've spent many nights camping out with my quad parked next to me, and I've previously always brought bigger tents that took up too much space on my quad. When going out for an extended ride, every cubic inch of space saved counts. It's easy to overload a quad and not have room for other essentials. Not so with this tent. The Vapor Light 1 packs to 19 inches by 4 inches and uses a "fin" design to offer a solo, freestanding shelter at an ultralight two pounds, 14 ounces. Now you have room to bring some end-of-day, celebratory beer!
In the Vapor Light, I got to stare up at the stars as I drifted asleep in the Amazon Basin, feeling safe that I wouldn't get malaria. It has a rain-fly that can be put up when it storms. The interior is way roomy but is made for one person only. A pair of hubbed poles steepens this tent's walls and increases the internal living space. There's also a large front vestibule to keep your pack and boots out of the rain while you wait out a storm. I wouldn't mind giving up my apartment to sleep in this tent full-time. -Mike Calabro
