Maxxis took five of the top nine spots at the GNCC’s motorcycle opener, held March 13 in River Ranch, Florida, and went on to grab three of the top four in XC2 at the next round, the Maxxis General, held March18 in Washington, Georgia.
Rory Mead overcame a last-place start to take third place in XC1 Pro and fourth overall at Round 1. The native New Zealander was well accustomed to the conditions of River Ranch. "It was a pretty tough track out there today. Back home, it's all sand. I didn't do a whole lot of preparation for it, but it was a good day," he told GNCCracing.com.
Jesse Robinson took second place in XC2 Pro Lites and sixth place overall at the opening round. Glenn Kearney of FAR Husqvarna joined Robinson on the XC2 podium and took seventh place overall, while Christopher Bach took fifth place in XC1 Pro and eighth overall. Bach praised the performance of his Maxxis tires: “With track surfaces varying from white beach sand to black dirt and pine tree roots, the Maxxcross SI proved to be the best all-around tire choice for the always changing conditions at River Ranch.” FAR Husqvarna rider Jason Thomas nabbed fourth in XC2 and ninth overall.
At Round 2, Thomas and Glenn Kearney took second and third place in XC2 Pro Lites, while Robinson was fourth. Thomas and the eventual race winner put on quite a show, battling back and forth for the entire three-hour race. “I worked on my bike set up and it was awesome today,” Thomas said. “I had a great ride today fighting for the win but came up short. Stew and I traded the lead so many times today. Stew would pass me in one section then I would pass him in another.” Mead took eighth place in XC1 Pro, while Bach earned ninth.
With 34 points, Mead is fifth in overall XC1 standings, with Bach in seventh place. Thomas, Robinson and Kearney are second, third and fourth in XC2 point standings.
Maxxis congratulates all of these riders on their fine performances and an exciting start to the GNCC season.
