The White Knuckle Event (WKE) has been dubbed “the Woodstock of ATV and SxS events.” After recently attending this annual Memorial Day weekend festival, we would find it difficult to dispute the comparison. The only thing missing was the naked hippies.

Chris Umphrey drove this Tony’s Toys RZR to first place in the White Knuckle Obstacle Challenge, using STI Black Diamond tires mounted on STI HD2 wheels. Must be early in the race, since the car is so clean.
Attendance has reputedly doubled with every edition since its inception six years ago. This time around a crowd estimated at a ginormous 7,000 to 15,000 (depending on who you’re talking to) gathered at the Brimstone Recreation Area near Huntsville, Tennessee. This flood of off-road enthusiasts was drawn to Brimstone’s lovely Cumberland Mountains setting by the scenery, abundant riding opportunities, a wide variety of fun family activities, giveaways, contests and numerous competitions, as well as concerts by country crooners Chris Cagle and Laura-Bell Bundy. In short, it was one big, hot, dirty and totally groovy celebration of internal combustion.
The powersports industry knows a good thing when it sees it and gives the event considerable support. STI Tire & Wheel set up camp in the vendor area and used the opportunity to introduce the throng to the new Silverback-XLite tire and HD Beadlock alloy wheel. STI was also happy to provide two complete sets of tires for drawings.

STI rep Lee Dillehay finished second in the White Knuckle Challenge, in a Black Diamond-equipped RZR owned by Tony’s Toys.
A highlight for us was participating in the White Knuckle Obstacle Challenge’s side-by-side class. Using STI Black Diamond tires, Chris Umphrey of Tony’s Toys won the event with a Polaris RZR 900 XP, while STI’s own Lee Dillehay finished in the runner-up position with an RZR 800 — a one-two punch!
We’ll be back, and you can bet your sweet bippy that most of those in attendance in 2012 will be too. Power to the people!
