When GNCC Pro Brian Wolf headed west to take on the WORCS series, the results were a triumph for both the rider and Maxxis. A victory for Wolf and several podium spots for other riders made June 16 and 17 a winning weekend for the company. Wolf won Round 6 of the WORCS series, held in Enterprise, Utah, while riders sponsored by Maxxis were second, third and fourth at Round 6 of the ATV Motocross National Championship series, held in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania.
Wolf, currently sixth in GNCC XC1 Pro points, enjoyed his first WORCS experience. “The course was fast and rocky with a couple creek crossings. All in all, I ended up with no flats and the win for the day,” he said. “The pace was a lot faster than the GNCC and a lot dustier. It was just that there was no slowing down for any tight stuff. It was wide open from the get-go!”
Beau Baron of Team Maxxis/H&M joined Wolf on the podium in second place. On a course where sharp rocks caused punctures for many riders, Baron said his Razr Xc tires gave him a definite advantage: “The tires were so good, coming out of the water and through the roots and all the loose vegetation. A lot of people were just spinning and getting stuck. The Xc rears hooked up so good as I was just hanging off the back of the bike.” Baron, the current WORCS points leader, extended his lead to 13 points with his finish. After a difficult race, David Haagsma maintained his third-place points ranking with an eighth-place finish for the day.
Baron earlier won the UTV race on Maxxis Viprs, with Ryan Piplic, who leads the SXS 1000 Production class in points, in second place. “It was the first time I didn’t go into limp mode,” said Baron. “The motor is just so fast up on top now, and the thing just ripped. The Viprs were sick!”
Back East in the ATV MX series, Chad Wienen, Thomas Brown and Josh Upperman were second, third and fourth in the Pro class. Wienen took third place in the first moto and won the second on Razr MX rears and Razr Cross fronts, while Brown was 2-3. “I felt like I rode really well this weekend,” said Wienen. “The tires were working great. The track was slick and hard-packed, and our combo worked out awesome.” Upperman, who was 5-4 in the two motos, grabbed the holeshot in the second race and held the lead for a time before a mishap cost him the front spot. Wienen is first in series’ points, and Upperman and Brown are fourth and fifth.
