Marc Spaeth (shown) and Doug Eichner enjoyed a practically unchallenged ride to win Terrible's Town.
Doug Eichner and Marc Spaeth teamed up to impress a number of the top motorcycle desert racing teams on April 30 in Pahrump, Nevada. That's because motorcycles aren't used to being beaten by ATVs, yet the Eichner/Spaeth duo ended up ahead of most of the bikes at the Terrible's Town 250, round two (for ATVs, round three for bikes) of Best in the Desert's Silver State Series.
The Wayne Matlock/Chad Prull...
The Wayne Matlock/Chad Prull Suzuki ended up second Quad Pro and an impressive 10th overall.
In fact, when the times were tallied, Eichner/Spaeth beat all but seven of the motorcycle teams, completing the fast, rough 243-mile loop course in four hours, 55 minutes and 55 seconds on their Golden West Cycle-backed TRX450R. That gave them nearly a five-minute cushion over Quad Pro runners-up and defending series champions Wayne Matlock and Chad Prull, who finished in 5:00:10 on their Alba Suzuki LT-Z400. But even sweeter was the $5000 bonus that Eichner and Spaeth earned from the Herbst family, sponsors of the race through their statewide casino and gas station enterprises. Matlock/Prull, by the way, placed 10th overall in the combined motorcycle and ATV standings-definitely no slouches.
The Nicholas Granlund and...
The Nicholas Granlund and Shaun Moore duo was fifth Quad Pro to the finish.
The race got underway just before dawn with the ATVs setting out only after the fastest motorcycles left the line one per minute. From the outset, the Eichner/Spaeth pair outsped the field, opening up a minute or two at each checkpoint. Matlock/Prull did likewise to eventual third-place finishers Steve Beilman and Mike Everhart, who rode an Alba Action Sports YFZ450. Beilman/Everhart, however, fell off the pace a bit more in the latter stages.
Michael Cafro and Danny Prayther came from behind to grab fourth Quad Pro and 17th overall in 5:11:06 on their Temecula Motorsports machine while Nicholas Granlund and Shaun Moore rounded out the top five ATVs in 5:15:43 on their Floyd's Ace Hardware-backed Yamaha.
