Bill Ballance accepts his trophy on the podium
Bill Ballance showed up to Washington Georgia's "The General GNCC" with his race face on. "It's time to put one on the record books today" said Ballance in the pits as he made his final preparations. Nineteen other GNCC Pro-Racers also arrived and was ready to chase a podium position at round 3. Alba Actions Chris Borich was coming off of a 2 win race streak and felt as confident as ever. It would be a tough task for any racer to beat Borich this weekend.
As the Pro-Riders lined up in their respective positions on the starting line, you could feel the glow of excitement glaring. The flag dropped and 20 of the world's best Cross Country racers blasted off towards the first turn. Four Stroke Techs Chris Jenks hammered hard and grabbed a huge holeshot. Bill Balance and Santo Derisi followed close behind winding through the first few turns of the Aonia Pass Motocross track. As the dust cloud settled, the whole pro class disappeared into the woods.
Chris Jenks emerged from the woods with a 10 second lead over Borich and Ballance. Jenks kept the throttle pinned and never looked back but later ran out of the steam it takes to hold the lead. At the end of lap three, Balance and Borich were able to put the pass on Jenks. They banged bars and battled back and forth for the rest of the race while Jenks held strong to his well-earned third place.
On the last lap of the race, Ballance and Borich were neck and neck rolling up to one the famous GNCC mud holes. Ballance ended up taking the better line, which left Borich hanging onto second place. In the meantime, William Yokley was working hard and pulled within 5 seconds of Jenks but was not able to beat him to the finish line.
"I should have went to the left, but I went to the right. I thought I could make it." Said Borich speaking of the mud hole on the last lap. The real unforeseen hero of this race was Chris Jenks as he had one of the best races of his career and has proven he can run in the front of the Pro-Class.
