The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and the All-Terrain Vehicle Association (ATVA) encourage motorcyclists and ATV enthusiasts to protect their right to ride by voting in the U.S. general election on Tuesday, November 2.
Voters nationwide will choose not only the next President, but also every seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and one-third of the seats in the U.S. Senate. Numerous state and local candidates also will be on the ballot, as well as countless state and local issues.
Motorcycle- and ATV-friendly officials can have an enormous impact on issues such as rider education, access to medical insurance, off-highway vehicle recreation areas, or even whether motorcycle or ATV enthusiasts can ride on their own private land.
"It's important that motorcyclists and ATVers get to know the candidates and the issues before stepping into the voting booth," said Terry Lee Cook, Government Relations Specialist for the AMA and ATVA. "We don't expect enthusiasts to vote based on a single issue, but we urge enthusiasts to consider a variety of issues important to them before casting a vote.
"You won't always find motorcycling and ATV issues spelled out in candidates' campaign literature," Cook added, "so voters have to ask questions, either at town-hall meetings or by calling a candidate's campaign headquarters."
Voters can find out whether they are registered to vote and who the candidates are by contacting their local county Board of Elections.
