Reynoldsburg, OH - Mushin Racing’s Dallas Tapscott continued his winning streak in the Schoolboy Sr. class at round three of the 2010 AMA ATV Motocross Championships while Chase Snapp grabbed the Pro-am Production win and Thomas Brown made his first ever Pro podium appearance.
Birch Creek in Danville, VA was the hosting facility where the heat and humidity would push racers to the edge, but Mushin Racing’s Dallas Tapscott still put on an awesome showing in the Schoolboy Sr. class as he checked out on the competition to win both motos and take the overall. Tapscott led from start to finish in moto one and moto two, and finished with a 14 second lead in both motos. Tapscott is the current points leader in his class with 30 points.
In the Pro ranks, Thomas Brown claimed his first-ever National Pro podium.
Brown got off to a solid start and hung on, despite pressure from Chad Wienen and John Natalie, to finish in fourth place. Moto two went even better for Brown as he flew off the line in third place. Brown held his ground and even led for two laps at the midway point, but Brown would come under attack from a very determined Josh Creamer and would fall back for a third place finish. Brown’s impressive results earned him the number three spot on the podium. “I am really stoked to get a podium finish. I am going to do my best to get good starts and stay focused so I can be running up front with the top guys consistently,” said Brown.
Cody Gibson also returned to the Pro class for round three in order to salvage points after getting injured at round one. Gibson got off to decent starts, but the pain would get the best of him as he would finish in 17th overall.
Chase Snapp had a successful weekend, taking his second Pro-am Production win of the season giving him a 21 point lead in the championship race. In moto one, Snapp and Joel Hetrick battled hard with Snapp placing second after a mistake allowed Hetrick to take the lead; but in moto two, Snapp came back to take the moto win and the overall. Snapp also fared well in the Pro-am Unlimited class, going 3-2 to take second overall. “I’m really happy about taking a win this weekend, so I’m going to be working really hard over the next couple of weeks to make sure I win again,” said Snapp.
Also in the Pro-am Production class, Jeffrey Rastrelli stepped it up a bit to bring home a fifth and fourth place finish to take a solid fifth place overall.
In the youth classes, Ashton Ward came on strong in the 50 Ltd. Jr. class.
In moto one Ward would hold a solid fourth place for the entire moto, but in moto two, the number 27 was on the gas. Ward started out in fourth place, but stayed consistent and was able to make his way into the number two spot before crossing the finish line, giving him second overall in his class.
In the 70 CVT class, Spencer Meyer was looking solid as he kept the hammer down and claimed 3-4 finishes to earn the number three spot on the 70 CVT podium, while Hunter Harper would go 4-5 in the Supermini class and claim third overall as well.
Maci Davenport came on strong in the 90 Auto Sr. class taking 2-3 finishes and 2nd overall. Davenport looked as if the podium was in sight in the 90 Production class as well with a third place finish in moto one, but in moto two Davenport was unable to start and ended with17th overall.
David Nevrotski fared well in the Supermini class, going 3-6 to take 4th overall. Nevrotski also did well in the 90 Modified class, taking solid 6-6 finishes for 5th overall.
In the Production A class, Brian Johnson would take the moto one win, but would have to settle for the number eight spot in moto two, giving him sixth overall, while Jamie Jones would take consistent 7-7 finishes in the Women’s class for seventh overall.
The next round of the 2010 AMA ATV Motocross Championships will head to Sunset Ridge in Walnut, IL on May 15th ¬ 16th where the Mushin Racing team will be on the throttle as they shoot for the top of their classes.
