KTM Still In The GNCC Point Chase
After the seventh round of the Can-Am GNCC series, factory KTM rider Adam McGill (left) still holds on to second place in the overall pro point contest. After suffering some bad luck at the most recent round, McGill still sits inside the top five with 131 points, leaving him only 21 points behind series and current champion Bill Ballance. McGill's teammate Taylor Kiser (below) fared a little better at this last round by finishing in 10th place, but bad luck at the last few rounds has left him at seventh place overall. With six rounds left in the series, the KTM team still stands a great chance to claim a title and possibly have both of its team riders up on the final podium of the season.
Yamaha's Rhino 700 FI Named NRA's Vehicle Of The Year
American Hunter magazine, an official journal for the National Rifle Association (NRA), has awarded Yamaha Motor Corporation the 2008 Golden Bullseye Award for the new Rhino 700 FI Auto 4x4. In addition, the magazine also named the Rhino 700 FI the Vehicle of the Year in its May issue.
"Yamaha is extremely proud to have the Rhino recognized by the NRA and American Hunter, the world's largest all-hunting magazine," said Steve Nessl, Yamaha's ATV/side-by-side marketing manager. "Even as the competition in the side-by-side market continues to grow, the Rhino proves itself year after year as the award-winning vehicle of choice for hunters and outdoorsmen."
"The NRA Golden Bullseye Awards honor those products that are remarkable for their utility to hunters and shooters," said Joe H. Graham, executive director of the NRA Publications. "The Yamaha Rhino 700 FI is recognized by the editors and staff of American Hunter as a utilitarian wonder."
Tim Farr Takes Second Overall At Erzberg Iron Road Prologue
Tim Farr scored a historic second-place finish on his KTM 525 XC racing at the Erzberg Iron Road Prologue in Austria. Farr competed against a world-renowned field of 1500 dirt bike and ATV riders on the Iron Giant, a race that closely resembles Pikes Peak in the United States. Farr's finish was 60 places better than any previous ATV competitor had recorded in the race's 14-year history.
This was Farr's first appearance at the Erzberg Rodeo, an event he said he'd been following with interest for several years. "I've always wanted to come here and compete. I was pleasantly surprised to run with the front runners, and I definitely want to come back to Erzberg again."
As previously mentioned, Farr started the first day of competition with 1500 other racers, and by the second day was one out of 500 to advance. His time of 9:12.42 on the KTM 525 XC was only 10 seconds off the pace of the overall winner Antoine Letellier of France.
Yamaha Raptor 250 Named Consumers Digest Best Buy
Consumers Digest has recently announced that the Yamaha Raptor 250 and Raptor 250 SE were selected Best Buys in the Sport ATV category. The Raptor 250 has raised the bar in the entry-level sport ATV market. This model was built as a sport machine from the ground up, morphing from a utility ATV base like many others in its class.
The Raptor 250 base and SE model were both selected as Best Buys in the Economy sub-category. This rating designates products that provide the essential performance capabilities but with minimal or no added features, allowing for an advantageous price to cost-conscious consumers. The standards used to determine the Best Buys in ATVs were based on performance, ease of use, features and reliability.
"The Raptor 250 combines Yamaha's leading innovation and design with our top-quality engineering and manufacturing," said Yamaha's ATV/side-by-side marketing manager Steve Nessl. "Everyone here at Yamaha is honored to be acknowledged as a Consumers Digest Best Buy in our category."
