KTM Claims Baja Desert Championship Series Win
We all know that the KTM XC model ATV is great for GNCC woods racing, but rider Sebastian Husseini proved it's just as competitive in the desert. Husseini claimed a victory at the last round of the Baja Desert Championship Series in the United Arab Emirates. In completing 12 laps on the rough eight-mile loop, Husseini dominated the event and finished more than five minutes ahead of his nearest competitor.
The win at this event allowed Husseini to wrap up the overall title, which was his first. His KTM 525 XC was mainly stock, outfitted only with PowerParts available at your local KTM dealer. "I am delighted to have won the title," Husseini said. "The new KTM 525 XC is an incredible bike. My team was great, and due to their hard work, we managed to come out on top."
ITP And Can-Am Back Championship Mud Racing
Even as the CMR Mud Tour series is coming to a quick start, award-winning and groundbreaking tire company ITP has signed on as the title sponsor for 2008. In addition to the support from ITP, the series has signed ATV manufacturer Can-Am as the presenting sponsor. With the backing of companies with such solid history in the ATV industry, this series seems likely to be a huge hit.
The ITP CMR Mud Tour Presented by Can-Am will have seven competition dates spanning from May through October. Points will be awarded throughout the season in several competition classes for ATV and side-by-side mud racing. Suzuki Standing Strong In ATVA Motocross Series
After claiming three first-place finishes out of four races, Suzuki riders Dustin Wimmer and Doug Gust sit first and second, respectively, in points for the ITP National Motocross Series. Wimmer, who's in the point lead, has yet to finish off of the podium, and Gust sits in second place enjoying a 26-point lead over third-place rider Joe Byrd. At the most recent event held at Birch Creek MX, Wimmer rode smart to take 2-2 moto scores, giving him a solid second-place finish for the event and keeping him out front in the standings.
Gust, fresh off a win at Ballance MX in Bowling Green, Kentucky, tried to recreate his win but finished fourth overall with a 3-7 moto score. "It was a good weekend," team manager and former pro racer Kory Ellis claimed. "We were able to get through and hold on to as many points as possible. Dustin is first and Doug is second in the point chase, so I'm happy with that!"
2008 WPSA ATV Racing Schedule Canceled
PowerSports Entertainment Inc. has announced that the 2008 WPSA PowerSports ATV Tour has been canceled indefinitely. PowerSports CEO Rick Murphy said, "We have been working diligently for many months to fundamentally improve our business model and acquire financing that would allow us to move forward, but we weren't able to consummate the contemplated transactions, and we foresee no significant increases in sponsorship or event revenue that would gap the projected deficits."
"While the company is considering a variety of options, none of these would happen quickly enough to justify running the WPSA Championship ATV Tour according to our established standards, and we believe that it's best to cancel the 2008 ATV season rather than attempt a watered-down version," added Scott O'Malley, president of PEI. "We are attempting to find remedies that would allow us to resume operations, but at this time we have no firm solutions. Hopefully we will be successful in our endeavors."
