April Issue Extras - Radar Data from the Big-Bore and Mega-Bore Comparisons

We were as curious as most of you probably are, too—which is the fastest utility ATV on the market in stock form? So we hauled our radar gun to Georgia for our testing of the biggest and the badest monsters to settle the debate. We used one pilot for all eight (five big-bores and three mega-bores) and a nice long straight-away that was about a quarter-mile of hard, dry clay. We did two runs each from a dead stop and then had our tester do two 50-0mph runs to see how well the brakes hauled the mass down. The results are graphed here using the best runs from each to show how the machines did in their respective classes. Whether or not you pin it or just cruise, the info is meant to be educational and help you decide what machine is ideal for you. Enjoy; we'll be doing more of these with each comparison test.

To get the amazing shots of 4x4's rampaging over rocks and roots takes more than a quick trigger finger and a psycho on the quad. Sometimes a crazy assistant working with an equally nutty photographer risking life and limb to get the lights in the right spot is needed—especially when shooting dark or camouflaged utilities in the dark woods.
