Cobra www.cobramotorcycle.com
One of the companies most affected by the CPSC nonsense is Cobra Motorcycles. Unlike every other OEM, Michigan-based Cobra only makes youth models. For 2010, Cobra has three ATV models to choose from: the ECX50, ECX70, and ECX80AC models. Since their introduction to the ATV racing world, Cobra has dominated various classes and raised the bar for youth ATVs in general.
The ECX50 is a scaled-down version of a Pro-caliber race quad. Weighing in at 206 lbs, the 50cc, two stroke, liquid-cooled, single-speed ECX50 powerplant is nestled in an Arens-designed frame based on the Honda 250R. The ECX50 boasts 9.75" of travel up front and nearly 8" in the rear via Öhlins and Fox Racing shocks respectively. Disc brakes front and rear and ITP tires round out this race-ready package. MSRP: $6,998
The ECX70 weighs in at 210 lbs, and like its smaller sibling is packed with race-ready features. The liquid-cooled, 70cc, two-stroke engine is based on Cobra's championship-winning CX65 dirt-bike motor, has a hydraulically actuated clutch, and is mated to a six-speed transmission. Like the 50, the 70 also sits in an Arens-designed frame, with disc brakes and ITP tires, and boasts 9.75" of travel up front with an increased 8.66" in the rear.
MSRP: $8,198The ECX80AC was specifically built for the ATVA 90cc Production JR and 90cc classes. Based on the ECX70, the ECX80AC offers the same race package in an auto clutch version-the major differences obviously being the Rekluse Z-ball auto-clutch which allows up shifting, downshifting, stopping, and starting without the use of a manually operated clutch. MSRP: $8,398
Pitster Pro www.pitsterpro.com
Pitster Pro may be one of the least known OEMs in the comparison, but in their short history they've managed to produce a handful of great models; among them is the FXR 90R. The FXR weighs in at 236 lbs with a 45"-wide stance and a bevy of race-ready features. The air-cooled, four-stroke, 88cc SOHC, electric-start motor is mated to a four-speed, semi-auto clutch transmission. Dual A-arms with 8" of travel comprise the front suspension, while 9" of travel grace the rear. Dual-piston front brakes and an axle-mounted wave rotor in the rear provide the stopping power for the FXR. Standard features include aluminum wheels, hand guards, and Pro Taper-style handlebars. Optional equipment available includes big-bore kits, No Toil air filter, ASV levers, Fox or Elka suspension, and custom graphics packages. The FXR 90R comes in white, and the

The 170 is available in either Indy Red or Pink Power and has an MSRP of $3,999.

Outlaw 90

Sportsman 90
In the 90cc offerings there are two pretty identical units with the major differences being styling and cosmetics. Both the Sportsman 90 and Outlaw 90 are powered by a 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled 89cc motor mated to an automatic PVT transmission. Both machines use a single A-arm with 5" of travel up front and 6" of travel in the rear, drum brakes, and steel wheels. Both weigh in at a hefty 305 lbs and measure in at 36.75" wide. The Sportsman's utility look comes complete with racks that boast a 15lb capacity up front with 30lb capacity in the rear. The Sportsman is available in Indy Red or Sage Green, while the rack-less Outlaw 90 is available in Indy Red/White or Pink Power. Both machines have an
