ATVR: He definitely is a good guy. In following the series myself, I found he's approachable to anyone who wants to talk to him.
MC: Absolutely! I couldn't believe that he wasn't getting any kind of help, so I started throwing some stuff his way to see what we could do and what 2009 would bring. We're stoked to have him aboard, and he's a good fit for the team and a good friend now. Hopefully, we can win a championship for this year.
ATVR: Now how about Josh? He turned pro after winning the Pro-Am class last year; was it planned to bring him on?
MC: At Round 3 in Lake Havasu, Arizona, Levi took a spill during practice and injured his wrist. At first it didn't seem like a serious injury, but after further medical evaluation we found it would keep him out for the remainder of the season. With him out, we wanted to fill his position. Levi was one of our front-runners and had a strong chance for winning a championship, so we needed a rider of equal caliber.
By having more support than...
By having more support than last year, Beau Baron is always a strong contender for a win and possibly a championship in '09.
Josh already has many of the same sponsors as we have and runs the same machine, so he was a perfect fit. So far he's been a great addition and has been turning in some great results.
ATVR: Beau, how has becoming a member of Team MCR helped you and your race program? How was the transition from last year's LT-R450 to the Honda TRX450R you're presently on?
Beau Baron: It has definitely made my life easier trying to get to the races and getting all of my stuff ready. It leaves more time for me to practice and get better at riding. Overall, being a part of the team has helped me a lot.
The transition to the new bike was difficult right at first, because I never really rode quads until I rode the Suzuki. Switching to the new bike was quite a bit different, but I'm starting to get the feel of the new bike. It works good, really, really good.
ATVR: How about you Josh? How has becoming part of the team benefited you?
Josh Row: Being a part of this team has really helped me a lot as well. Mike has really gotten the bikes dialed in for us, and that's one of the main things for me. Having Beau as a teammate has been very beneficial as well. With my nerves, he's been settling me down and has been a great partner to train with.
ATVR: The third spot on your team is filled by Julie Russell, who is not only your fiance but also one of the fastest female racers in the series. By her standings in the Women's A class, it seems she's representing the team quite well for you.
MC: So far this year she has had solid finishes and would make a great asset to any team. Off of the track she helps make everything happen, from transportation to and from races and everything in between. Without her help things wouldn't be as smooth as they have been.
One of the fastest female...
One of the fastest female racers on the circuit, Julie Russell is also an important asset to helping the program run smooth.
ATVR: Now I noticed at times there are more than just the four team members' bikes under the canopies and running the MCR graphics kit. Are you offering support to other riders?
MC: I'm offering some support to Keith Johnson and Javier Robles, who is currently third in points in the Pro-Am class. I'm also assisting Robles in getting a team together with Marc Spaeth and a few other riders for this year's Baja 500 on my full setup.
ATVR: Is that where your support stops? With those riders?
MC: Not at all. If there is something that I have and someone else needs, I'd be more than glad to give it to them so long as it doesn't jeopardize anything that we have going on. I want our team to be approachable and people to come to us if we can help in any way. If I have something they need, they're more than welcome to it, and they should return the favor to us or any other racer for that matter in the future. This is just how the racing community should be.
