It would end up to be a beautiful weekend for the very last ATV MX National of the year at Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch in Hurricane Mills Tennessee along with the expected blistering hot sun and ridiculous amounts of humidity that sucked your body dry of any moisture. As to be expected, the track was perfectly prepped and ready to take on yet another monumental weekend of racing. Suzuki's Dustin Wimmer walked into the event only literally needing one finish to wrap up the 2009 Championship. In practice, it seemed as if every Pro racer kept it in reserve as if they did not want to show their cards for what would come Sunday.
Moto 1:
With the sun gleaming and a lot of anticipation filling the air the gates dropped and 18 Pro racers hit the track like a swarm of bees. It was in fact Kawasaki's Josh Creamer who would emerge at the lead of the pack grabbing the holeshot and never challenged for that front position for the rest of the moto. On the second turn Kawasaki's Chad Wienen tangled with a group of other riders practically putting him at the back of the pack. But after putting in a beautiful run with fierce determination, he ended up working his way into the 13th spot. Local Joe Byrd who normally pulls off great finishes at his home track rolled through the checkers in a solid second place while Wimmer practically kept it in reserve and safe taking home the 4th position for the day and securing his 2009 Championship. From the ATV Rider Magazine staff, we'd like to congratulate Dustin Wimmer and Suzuki for yet another killer year of racing.
Moto 2:
Now that the Championship had been decided, for some there was defiantly less anticipation in the air, but for some such as Kawasaki's Josh Creamer and Chad Wienen, they still had something to prove. Both Suzuki's Doug Gust and Dustin Wimmer showed off a sweet looking red plastic scheme on their race machines. The gates dropped and it would be the number 708 Honda of Harold Goodman who would end up taking the holeshot and leading the first handful of laps. It was not long before Creamer stepped up to the plate taking over the lead and holding onto it for only a short time. With something to prove, Chad Wiened jumped up to the front of the pack and took it home for his first win of the weekend. He would be followed by Creamer, Byrd and Can Am's Ironman John Natalie.
On the podium, you definitely got the sense that Kawasaki's two key riders are going to give it everything they've got to take the 2010 season. "This Kawasaki will take the Championship next season" claimed Wienen. But for now, Suzuki's Dustin Wimmer can enjoy yet another season with that number 1 plate.
