The Coombs family creates the AMA National Hare Scrambles Series, holding the first event at High Point Raceway. The series morphs over the years into the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Racing Series.1982
MX Sports, Inc., is founded for the purpose of producing the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Steel City Raceway holds its first motocross race.
The GNCC series adds ATC (three-wheel) racing, followed shortly by four-wheeled ATVs. 1984
