How different is today's factory support compared with the support back when you raced for Honda?I am not exactly sure of the support the factories offer these days, but we were treated with the greatest of respect. We were paid a nice salary and excellent win bonuses as well as given commercial time and advertising exposure. They kept our quads and delivered them to the races prepped and ready to ride. All we had to do was train and show up ready to race.
What's your opinion on ATV racing's current status?I am glad to see the recent growth of the sport. The guys are going really fast these days. The problem is that quads have not really become much faster since the end of my career. For example, trophy truck technology has advanced leaps and bounds over the past 10 years, but quads are virtually the same. I've heard of a few advancements that are being introduced in '06, and I believe this will help to spark new ideas. I'd also like to see tracks that are more quad-friendly. We want the riders to look good, not be bouncing around a track that does not provide ATVs a first-rate image.
You had an awesome win in the Terracross event at ESPN's Great Outdoor Games. Can we expect to see you competing in more ATV races in the future?I will most definitely continue to compete if they will let me, especially if they can throw bigger and better obstacles at me. I tend to do better when negotiating obstacles rather than being the fastest rider on the track. I was able to win the Terracross with experience rather than by being the fastest.
