Simplicity is the hallmark of this nitrous kit, which cuts both ways. It wouldn't be a bad thing to add a second switch in line with the nitrous button-so you could cruise around with the bottle open but the solenoid switch deactivated and not worry about accidental activation. That said, we also wouldn't mind seeing a more-robust mounting bracket to hold a full bottle securely in a crash.
On the dyno, the Predator made a peak of 44.5 horsepower and 32.1 foot-pounds of torque in the stock pipe configuration. Once we hit the go-faster button, those numbers spiked to 58.4 horsepower and 45.0 foot-pounds of torque, an amazing jump of 13.9 and 12.9, respectively.
Monster gains were achieved in both categories, but not without a slight drawback. Both on the dyno and out on the open sand, the throttle response was a bit sluggish, and below about 5000 rpm, there was an occasional lag in response, mostly at light throttle openings. With the bottle open and large hills ahead, the Predator is a ferocious beast in the dunes. Testing at the Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area in Southern California, we found no hill the BoonDocker kit couldn't conquer with aplomb. Dressed in a set of Sand Tires Unlimited Tebo groove tires on the back, our Predator wheelied up some of the steepest hills easily. In fact, the only thing struggling was me, trying to keep the front end down!
If you like the dunes and love to pull the trigger, the BoonDocker nitrous kit might be right up your alley. We feel it's important to warn you about one final caveat: The acceleration rush from nitrous can be addictive, so make sure you bring enough laughing gas to last your entire trip!
