So it began as class after class blasted from the starting line with only one objective on their minds-to cross the finish line first! Well, that sounds easy enough, right? Just hit the throttle, aim straight and you'll cross the finish line. Not so, my friends! This event demands patience, skill, body English, a good setup and even a fistful of luck to make it out on the other side. I can't tell you how many times people were pulled from the bog as they flipped, sucked water and were left stranded in the middle of the deep slop-filled muck. But one cool thing that I learned at this event is that mud riders are kind people; they tend to look out for their own. When a rider was down, I bet 10 of them would jump in (clothes and all) to assist in getting the rider and his machine out of the bog. To me, it's so cool knowing that you'll always get a helping hand when things go wrong. And trust me when I say things will go wrong.
The clawing, mud slinging and raw competitiveness continued for the rest of the day until only a select few were crowned overall winners. As the Gorilla crew wrapped up round one of the CMR series, they held a prestigious awards ceremony to recognize those who conquered the gnarly Texas mud. Winners were awarded great deals of cash, sweet-looking trophies and a jump on a point lead heading into round two.
A Lasting ImpressionI must say that I walked away from this round with a newfound perspective of where mud racing is truly headed. Bringing these national-level mud races to various mud fests around the South is an absolute ingenious idea. And as for the Texas Mudfest, what an awesome job these promoters did. Everyone had a great time, and I'm sure looking forward to another weekend of this type of fun soon. For me, it's really hard to tell the story of an event of this magnitude with just words and photos, you really have to see it for yourself. If you missed this round, get out and hit another one of the CMR race events this summer. Join in on the mud revolution.
Gorilla Contingency ProgramDid you know that Gorilla Axle is offering up contingency money for those who display a Gorilla logo on their automobiles, ATVs or riding gear and it appears on the pages of a magazine? Well, Gorilla may kill us for doing this, but we've compiled a page full of those we captured at round one of the CMR series who displayed the logo. Why did we do this? To help our readers, of course! So if you're not signed up for the contingency program, you better get to it. There will be a ton of coverage of the CMR Series in the pages of ATV Rider Magazine. For more information on the Gorilla contingency program or to sign up, visit www.gorilla-axle.com.
