Local Colorado race hero Johnny Angel rounded out the podium with a time of 12:24.990. Angel had a rough time during practice the day before with an engine meltdown during his first morning run. There are no strangers at 9000 feet, and in good sportsmanship Stallworth provided a spare engine and helped assemble Angel's ailing Banshee the night before the race so it could be on the start line Saturday morning. "Without running Friday's time trials, I was stuck at the back of the pack on race day. I had to make my way past nine riders in 12 minutes-safely," Angel said. No stranger to the Peak, he has been participating here since '99 and was last year's winner. In '03, he broke the four-stroke record with a time of 13:32 on a Yamaha Raptor. With the new Yamaha 700R, perhaps we'll see a new four-stroke record in '06.
